Updated: Dec 8, 2024

This Career Roadmap is a comprehensive guide to navigating your career transition in the New Year. Whether you seeking a new role, a career change, or more flexibility in your current role, this road map is designed to help you pause, reflect, and take actionable steps to achieve your career goal.

The road map has six activities one for each of the remaining six weeks in 2024. Each activity consists of a quote to inspire you, reflective questions, and an action plan. All activities focus on key themes essential for career development: Career Growth, Values, Beliefs, Feedback, Networking, Personal Branding, and Work-life Balance.

As we have already covered Career Growth in week one, we will focus on values and beliefs in week two.

In the early stages of my career, I found the concept of values and beliefs challenging. Although I was able to identify my values and beliefs, I was not able to articulate them confidently. This led me to make poor career deciosns that resulted in burn out and lack of career fulfillment. Does this resonate with you? If so, you are not alone. Now is the ideal time to reflect on our values and beliefs and identify the cnanges you need to make in the coming year. Let's begin.

Week 2 – Values

“  When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier." — Roy E. Disney

Reflective questions:

  • Does your current role align with your top three values? If not, what changes can you make?

  • Thinking about your career aspirations, how closely does it match your work values?

Action:

  • Find out about three new roles/organisation that reflect your values. Consider their mission statement, culture and work environment. Why not engage with one of their staff to get an insider’s perspective? To what extent will these roles offer you the career fulfillment you seek in the New Year?

Week 2 - Beliefs

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't – you're right." — Henry Ford

Reflective questions:

  • Consider how your current beliefs about work and career growth were formed. Are they based on past experiences, external influences, or personal values?

  • What are your beliefs about success and failure?

  • What are your beliefs about asking for help and vulnerability?

Action

  •  Identify one limiting belief and outline specific actions you can start in the Next Year to help you overcome this belief.

Final words

Well done for completing the activities related to values and beliefs. Clarifying your values and beliefs is crucial because they influence your actions and decisions. When your values and beliefs are misaligned with your career aspirations, they can negatively impact your motivation, productivity, and career fulfillment.

Use this new insight to make well-informed career decisions in the coming year.

Keep moving with confidence towards your goals.  I wish you success with your career transition.
